Federal panel OKs trash site by LaGuardia

This falls in the category of "what the hell are you thinking". A federal panel has given the thumbs up to put a large dump right at the end of a runway at LaGuardia Airport.  These dumps turn into feeding grounds for all sorts of critters, not the least of them large sea birds.  If memory serves correctly (yes I know it does get fuzzy as we get older) there was a near disaster due to a bird strike there just about 18 months ago when a USAirways flight lost both engines and successfully ditched in the Hudson River.  The last thing that airports surrounded by water need is a garbage dump in near proximity.
